The only 2 princesses I don't see as being true princesses are Mulan and Belle (Belle is never shown marrying the Beast), although I like them both and am glad they are included in the lineup. Pocahontas is a Native American princess, debate me all you want, she is the daughter of a chief, which makes her the equivelent of a princess. But I think it's important that they are included because it shows little girls everywhere that no matter what they look like (white, black, middle-eastern, asian, whatever), they are beautiful. By reading many articles and scholarly works on Disney (yes they're out there), I have found that little girls look to the princesses for role models and their ideals of beauty. Let's say a Native American girl looks at the lineup and sees nothing but white faces, including Pocahontas shows her that her complexion and heritage is beautiful as well. Also, I think Disney took the lead females from their most financially and critically successful films and put them all together. I have also heard that although Mulan is not technically a princess, she embodies the "qualities" that a Disney princess possesses, which links all of them.

True, Id have to agree. Pocahontas is debatable. Though she's not an actual princess, her father is the Chief which is probably why she is included in the princess line up. Mulan is only really a princess in the sense that she married the General's son and she did something heroic for her country. But both being courageous, intelligent, strong and not to mention diverse women, I think they fit in well with the other Disney Princesses regardless of if they should technically be there. :)

I consider them both to be princesses. Well I know Mulan wasn't born with royal blood or didn't marry a prince, but she did save her entire country. Being a heroine of China is a pretty high honor. Plus she did almost become a princess in the 2nd movie. Now Pocahontas, I think she was born with royal blood. Yes her father was just a Chief, but that's royalty to her people. Being the Chief's daughter makes her the princess of her people. So yeah, I consider both of them to be princesses.

Two words: Political Correctness. You can't just have white, European princess, you have to have one for every race. *barf* In reality, mostly, the idea of royalty and princesses was relegated to Europe and Scandinavia. Everywhere else, South America, the Middle East, so on, really, they were just nobility in their own classes. The idea of royalty like is shown in the DP escaped them. (I'm not trying to be nasty)

But that's probably way too much info. It's just my opinion that it's political correctness for us.

Hey, back off. I wasn't being racist, I was stating fact. Go put your politically-correct, brainwashed head in the sand somewhere else. It's just facts.

Royalty is the bane of our existence. DP royalty is not royalty at all; it is romance and that is all. They're princesses because that's what attracts girls to it. Royalty, better referred to as "monarchy," was wholly imperfect before Parliament and King William and Queen Mary came along. Most monarchs ruled with iron fists and cared little about what their people had to say for it; they suffered their populous into war just to "boost their incomes..." which they rarely shared with much graciousness, took away people's land/property due to unrealistic taxes, and much more. This "idea" of Disney Princesses is called "fictional, unrealistic, fantastical, and surreal" because it is not nor will it ever probably be true. So you are wrong on two accounts: 1. That DP is actually based on real, historical European monarchies and 2. that Disney is trying to be politically correct. They are not; they are merely trying to boost their sales by catering to each and every race. And yes, you did come off as a jerk and racist...but hey, you know the old, wise, historical saying...The tone of your words reflects the beliefs buried within the darkest depths of ones heart. Ergo, you are showing your bias.

To me though she not considered a princess to the European terms, she still is because her father was ruler of not only her people but also to lot of the land in Virginia.Powhatan had lots of land and lots peope he was in in charge of,so.He was considered a king though refused to be crowned by the English,of a land and people he was already considered king of.So it still make Pocahontas as princess,so she has right to be princess regardless of her people ways and belifs are different from others. She more princess then Mulan at least my personal oppion.

I agree with Pocahontas1Fan. About Mulan, I remember reading somewhere it said the scene where the Emperor gave Mulan his crest for saving China, thus making her an honorary Chinese Princess. It's also because her movie was successful and her character had qualities according to Disney's own princess agenda. I also think that having Pocahontas and Mulan in the line-up, officially, showed girls that no matter what you look like, you can be a princess.
