They wouldn't kill Damon despite the fact he may suffer terribly, but they still need the actor on the show. The Directors aren't stupid, they know, Damon is a big reason the show does so well..

The Story both within the novel and show deals with Elena and how she deals with both brothers, while the connection between Damon and Elena is still building, they wouldn't kill Damon off at this point without reaching the climax of the point in the story. Besides without Damon, we'd have the guilt ridden romance between Stefan and Elena. Heavens knows we have enough stories like that.

I believe Damon brings conflicts to the story, the danger....therefore he is needed...not just for Elena but for conflict between him and Stefan

If the writers, producers, etc. decide to kill Damon off, they'll have to respond to the CW's rage for such a stupid move and to the hundreds of thousands of fans who will be stalking them, stake in hand.

The writers & producers would be too stupid to kill Damon off the show. After all he is one of the core characters. Any main characters are too important to kill off the show, especially since they're in the spotlight. Even if they did kill him off, us fans would go balistic! IMO, TVD is important to me, it's the only show I look forward to watching every Thursday night! If they canceled it now, that would be a stupid decision and they would do it without thinking. Damon is a popular character and important, and I've said this before somewhere else, that without him there wouldn't be TVD and it wouldn't be exciting without him and intense! As well as incredible! He's the reason I watch TVD! If they were to replace Ian with someone else, they would FAIL! Ian is Damon, that's it period! Ian wouldn't allow that! Nobody would!
