I think of the books and the show as two different things. It'd be a crappy ending to the books, since from what I've heard the last books really focus on DE, but I wouldn't give up on the show because of it.

this is two different things and maybe in the show, damon and elene will be together.
in the same thing in gossip girl, in the books, chuck and Blair weren't together and in the show, they are the best couple.

The books and show are different, so if Damon and Elena don't get together in the books doesn't mean they won't get together in the show.

YES! I believe that the Damon, Elena and Stefan in the books are completely different people to the Damon, Elena and Stefan in the show. So if Stelena are End game in the books I still think that Damon and Elena could happen in the show. Not to be disrespectful to L.J. Smith, but the show is based on the books, which doesn't mean it has to be the same, it's already so different and I think because the characters in the show are so different to the characters in the books I would still think Delena had a chance.
